Brigitta Winkler's workshop in Ojai, "INTER : Act / Sect / Weave / Relate" will focus on one of the most essential + foundational ideas in all of tango, the lead / follow dynamic that rises + flows between the partners. This synthesis of touch + gravity, stillness + motion, does much more than simply "connect" two bodies by fusing or "merging" them together. Instead, the alchemy of the dance proposes and celebrates a much deeper, emergent property inherent in tango — our creation of a whole that is somehow greater than the sum of its parts. Plan to join us in Ojai on February 17 for a playful, insightful + sublime evening with tango icon Brigitta Winkler as we join her in exploring concepts and examples for expressive following and effortless leading ... — Opening a door into a world where "One plus One" no longer folds our two distinctive roles down into a simple unity of "one" — but lifts and transforms both partners, propelling our Tango up into a realm of transcendent "Three" — a beguiling interplay of you and me and us.

More About Brigitta Winkler
Celebrated as a major figure of the modern Tango Renaissance, Brigitta Winkler relishes both tradition and innovation, and brings more than 30 years' experience to the dance floor.
She spent some years in Paris studying with Virulazo, a star of Tango Argentino. At that time she met Coco Orlando Diaz, and they began performing together at Les Trottoirs de Buenos Aires in Paris. In 1986, they toured to Montreal and Toronto.
Brigitta traveled often to Buenos Aires to study with such noted dancers as Juan Carlos Copes, Antonio Todaro, Pepito Avellaneda, Gustavo Naveira, and Eduardo Arquimbau. In 1987 she opened Tanzart with Angelika Fischer, where she hosted Arquimbau's visits to Berlin.
In 1994 Brigitta choreographed and danced in the Tango Marathon in the Theaterhaus Stuttgart and Tango Vision in the Podewil Berlin. In 1996, she was a co-founder of the influential all-women collective and performance group Tango Mujer.
These days, Brigitta travels widely and teaches regularly at major Tango Festivals throughout the United States, Germany, Italy and Russia, and in 2005 she opened her own Tangocenter called Phynix Tanzt in Berlin. She spent January teaching and dancing in Maui and at the Hawaii Paradise Tango Festival, and will offer workshops at Oxygen Tango just before her visit to Ojai.
