Launched in Spring 2015, the "Equinox" reflects
the warmth, openness and easy-going nature of the Ojai Valley.
Local dancers are joined by tangueros from throughout
the wider region Santa Barbara, Carpinteria, Ventura,
Oxnard, Camarillo, Thousand Oaks, and Los Angeles as
well as visiting dancers from up + down the coast, the Bay Area,
out-of-state and beyond.
Our intimate dance space is in the Ranch House's bar
+ lounge area, which features a smooth bamboo floor, a long
built-in sofa, and floor to ceiling picture windows all around
opening onto a mosaic of patio dining areas, grottos,
ponds, bridges, curving pathways, and the magnificent surrounding
gardens.
In keeping with the spirit of "equal nights," the
"Equinox" offers dancers + listeners alike
finely crafted tandas that alternate between classic
Golden Age recordings + the best of contemporary Tango
including modern acoustic work, electronic tango, crossover
musicians influenced by jazz + classical music, and "alternative"
sounds borrowed from evocative traditions around the world.
Even our logo celebrates this harmonious blend of old + new,
drawing its inspiration from the nearly 1,000 year old taijitu
("yin-yang symbol") of Zhou
Dunyi, a Taoist philosopher of the Song Dynasty.
